Heavy Rigid

An HR Licence allows the holder to drive a Heavy Rigid vehicle – more than 8 tonne Gross Vehicle Mass (no axle limit) +/- trailer (max 9 tonne Gross Vehicle Mass).

Pre-requisite:

C-class license for 2 years or Light Rigid (LR) or Medium Rigid (MR) for 1 year

There are 3 classes for an HR  licence:

Automatic: Automatic HR  licenceonly only

  • The HR-A licence entitles the holder to drive HR vehicle with an automatic gearbox.
  • Opportunities exist within bus and coach driving, which only require an automatic licence.

Synchromesh (single clutch): HR-B licence only (synchromesh or automatic gearbox)

  • The HR-B Licence entitles the holder to drive HR vehicles with automatic and synchromesh gear boxes.
  • While not as challenging as the Road Ranger, the HR-B licence opens many employment possibilities.

Roadranger (double clutch): HR “open” licence (automatic, synchromesh and double clutch gearboxes)

  • The HR “open” licence entitles the holder to drive HR vehicles with an automatic, syncromesh and double clutch gearboxes.

All assessments are conducted by our DoT approved assessors.

If you hold an interstate or international licence, please contact the Dept of Transport to obtain either a Learners’ Permit or transfer your interstate licence to a WA licence.
